Model Membranes

Large-scale molecular modelling from electron microscopy tomograms.

This project explores how species physically interact, remodel and alter their membrane topologies in response to the cellular or surrounding environment. Imaging data is combined with molecular models to contextualise mechanisms of transport across dual membrane systems.

Soil Microbiome

Exploring the structural mechanism of interactions during symbiotic community formation.

Plant roots form interactions with mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria within soil. This project examines how tri-partite communities form and dynamically reshape at the species interface, such as in response to environmental cues.

Ecology of Waste

Investigating how microbes interact with waste products and mediate their breakdown.

This project investigates how bacteria and fungi remodel when introduced to alien components such as micro-plastics. Future avenues seek to explore how these organisms lever breakdown of toxic or long-lived human waste products.
